Dr. Carl Grayson Ellison, 92, husband of the late Hazel Williams Ellison, died Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Anderson Place Nursing Center.
Born April 20, 1923 in the Cheddar Community of Anderson County, he was the son of the late Carl and Eva Rogers Ellison. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of World War II where he was a B24 pilot. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Bronze Service Arrowheads and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. Dr. Ellison was a graduate of Williamston High School, Anderson College, Furman University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Luther Rice Seminary. He served as pastor in churches in Anderson, Greenville, Laurens, Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties for 37 years. He was appointed as Director of Missions for North Dakota by the Southern Baptist Convention and served for five years. Dr. Ellison was a Genealogist and had written numerous books on Ellison and Rogers history. He served on the Anderson-Oconee-Pickens Mental Health Board for many years where he served as Vice-Chairman. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Dianne Martin and husband, Larry of Anderson; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Keith Ellison; two brothers, Melvin Mazone Ellison and Robert Charles Ellison and a sister, Frances Marie Ellison McCoy.
